What is Transition Oxford?

Transition Oxford is a community initiative preparing for life beyond fossil fuels.

It is one of a growing number of Transition Towns and cities whose long-term aims are to develop “energy descent” plans.

These plans are designed to map out how we can smoothly get from our current fossil fuel dependent society to one that is happy, stable and sustainable.

Key to this “transition” is:

•  local resilience to the rising cost and declining availability of oil

•  reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% over 20 years

•  using creativity and innovation to maintain a society where everyone is needed

Transition Oxford is in its early stages, organised by a seed group of nine action groups. We went public in November 2007 with a talk by Rob Hopkins of Transition Town Totnes.

All are welcome at our regular gatherings. These are chances to meet the people involved in Transition Oxford, hear what's going on, get involved and help shape the process.   We're committed to including everyone in Oxford and working closely with organisations that share our purposes.
