Action Groups - Alternate Living Skills

Focus: We hope to provide practical hands-on experience in a wide range of skills that will become increasingly necessary for low-impact, transition and post-transition living
Local access to free (or incredibly cheap!) re-skilling in anything from measuring your carbon footprint to straw-bale building, from low-carbon cooking to building a compost loo.
A group where people can share and learn these skills, and maybe operate as a work party for people who need such projects completing.
It is hoped that by resourcing what skills we have already amongst ourselves and our contacts, we can find people to offer training on a wide range of subjects that otherwise may be too expensive or far away.

Contact: skills@transitionoxford.org.uk

If you want to be included in regular updates and announcements, email your contact details to me... or if not, feel free to email with questions, suggestions etc...

Next Step and Up-Coming Events: We already have tentative offers of training on:

  • measuring your carbon footprint
  • sustainable urban living and energy reduction
  • straw bale building
  • domestic 12 volt energy production and use
  • herbal medicines
  • foraging.... wild food for free
  • basic web design
  • communication skills
  • bread making

We expect to start with a "measuring your carbon footprint" session... details tbc.... and then see what issues that raises for future training. The intention is that when we meet, it should not be to discuss these issues, but to do them!

What We Need: Enthusiastic people to get involved, get their hands dirty and get knowledgable. People to offer to share their skills (You dont need to be an expert... an introductory level workshop is fine!) People who are engaged in these kind of projects, who maybe need a trainee work crew to come and help build your straw bale barn, dig your water filtration system etc!
