Action Groups - East Oxford
Focus: food sharing / eating together, film showings, energy reduction, transport/car share
Activities:
We did a small information gathering / awareness raising exercise recently - delivered leaflets to 400 households and then went door to door, speaking to 63 people, to gauge interest in a car club and to see what features would be important for it to work in our area (leaflet info is on our provisional website www.oxcar.org.uk ).
We got resoundingly enthusiastic responses and are now working with Commonwheels, a not for profit car club, to get cars on the streets of East Oxford in November ( www.commonwheels.org.uk ).
We are looking to build a fleet combining good, fuel efficient, reliable resident donated cars with a couple of new ones (hoping one of those will be electric). The Ethical Property Company has donated two parking bays, behind its building on Cowley Road for car club cars and we're hoping the County Council will provide us with a few more marked bays in local streets.
We will be doing a publicity 'surge' in September and are obviously now on the look out for funding and donations of suitable cars for the first fleet!
